Gibson Les Paul 59 Reissue

Origins
The Les Paul model was the result of collaboration between Gibson Guitar design Corporation and finally pop star, the inventor of electronic and jazz guitarist does Les Paul. In 1950, with the introduction of the Fender Telecaster in the music market, electric guitars became a public craze. In response, Gibson Guitar president Ted McCarty guitarist Les Paul in society as a consultant. Les Paul was an innovator respected experimented with the design of the guitar for years in favor of his own music. In fact, the body solid hand-built prototype called "The Log ", a design widely considered the first solid body Spanish guitar ever built, unlike the Hawaiian guitar or lap steel. This guitar is known as "El Diario", because the core is a solid block of pine with a width and depth are a little larger than the width of the sleeve. Despite numerous other prototypes and limited production models of solid body other manufacturers have taken the surface, it is known that in 19451946, Les Paul had approached Gibson with "The Diary" prototype, but his solid body design was rejected.
In 1951, initial denial has become a collaboration between the design firm and Gibson Les Paul guitar. It was agreed that the new Les Paul guitar was to be an expensive instrument, well done Gibson's tradition. Although differing recollections about what has contributed to the design of Les Paul, who was far from a replica of the Fender market models. Since the early 1930, Gibson had offered electric hollow body guitars like the ES-150, at least, these models of electric hollow body provided with a set of benchmarks basic design of the new Gibson solid body, like a curved body shape more traditionally offered by competitors Fender, and pasted in ("set") neck, unlike the Fender bolt-on neck joint design.
The importance of contributions to Les Paul guitar design Gibson remains controversial. The book "50 Years of the Gibson Les Paul" limits Paul's contributions to two: advice on the tailpiece trapeze, and a preference for color (indicating that Paul preferred gold as "looks" expensive, and a second choice of black because "it makes your fingers appear move faster in the box "and" classyike a tuxedo ").
In addition, Gibson President Ted McCarty says Gibson Guitar Corporation merely approached Les Paul for the right to print the name of the musician in the head to increase sales of the model, and in 1951, Gibson showed Paul a tool almost finished. McCarty also claims that design discussions with Les Paul is limited to the mounting pole and a maple top on mahogany body density increased and sustained, he had asked Paul invested. However, according to Gibson Guitar, this investment would cause the guitar to be too heavy and the demand was rejected by Paul. Another change: the initial Goldtop going to be all mahogany and the last date has been customized for the maple top / mahogany body. Beyond of these applications, the contributions of Les Paul guitar line bearing his name became cosmetics. For example, always the showman, Paul said guitar has a gold finish, not only striking, but to emphasize the high quality of the instrument Les Paul too. The question most models including Paul flamed maple (striped Tiger) and "stitched" maple finishes, and once again face competitors Fender line car range color type finishes. Gibson was mostly disagree decisions with wood, and some Goldtop or customs was stripped of its finish beautifully figured wood to hide under. [Citation needed]
Models and variations
The Les Paul guitar line was originally designed to include two models: Regular (nicknamed the Goldtop) and staff, which offered upgraded hardware and a more formal black finish. However, progress in the collection, body design and the hardware is the Les Paul to become a long-term series of solid body electric guitars covering all price points and market level, except for guitarist beginner. This beginner guitar market has been filled by the model of Melody Maker, and although good melody market maker was not the name of Les Paul, your body is Always a Les Paul design throughout each day.
Beyond the design and layout of the body, a number features that distinguish the Gibson Les Paul for another line of electric guitars. For example, in a manner similar to the instruments of hollow-body Gibson, strings of Les Paul guitars are always mounted on the upper body of the guitar, rather than the body of the guitar, as shown in the drawings of his rival Fender. Gibson also offers a variety of colors such as red wine, Ebony, Classic White sustained shot in black and the Alps. In addition, the Les Paul offers a variety of finishes decorative and levels, a variety of hardware options, and an innovative range of electric pickup options, some of which significantly affect the sound of electric music. For example, in 1957, Gibson introduced the humbucking sound that revolutionized the electric guitar, and eliminate noise by 60 cycles, which was already Guitar plagued simple magnetic coil microphones.
Goldtop (19521957)
Les Paul, 1952 featured two P-90 single coil pickups and one-piece "style bridge and trapeze tailpiece, with strings that have been built in (instead more) of steel stop-bar. Weight and noise characteristics of the Les Paul was largely due to the construction of mahogany and maple, maple wood is quite hard and heavy but was limited to a ceiling of mahogany for a little lighter, to keep weight under control. In addition, early 1952 Paul never published the serial numbers, no united body, and are regarded by some as "linear programming model prototypes." However, after 1952 Les Paul published the serial numbers also came with related organizations. Interestingly, System design of some of these early models exist. For example, some of the Pauls of this issue have been equipped P90 microphones covered in black instead of cream-colored plastic covers that are associated with this guitar, even today. Interestingly, these first models, called "Goldtop" began to gain the interest of collectors, and thereafter, the nostalgic value associated with this instrument is growing. In fact, resale price vintage Pauls began to compete with prices already high, but more practical (and useful) Pablo versions released a year later.

The second issue Les Paul guitar was introduced to the public in 1954. Called the Gibson Les Paul Custom, a black guitar was nicknamed the Black Beauty. He also introduced the new bridge Tune-o-Matic design of a pickup with Alnico-5 magnet in the neck position. In addition, since 1957, Customs has been equipped with new humbucker Gibson, and later became available with three pills instead of the more usual two. Junior (19541960) and television (19551960)
Main article: Gibson Les Paul Junior
In 1954 to expand the market still solid body electric, Gibson has made the Gibson Les Paul Junior. Although Melody Maker was marketed toward the novice guitarist, Gibson designed for beginners with a newly designed Les Paul Junior. Over time, this design proved Gibson be well suited for professional use.
There were marked differences between models Les Paul Junior and the Les Paul. For example, although he saw Junior's body was clearly thinking of the original guitar high-end Les Paul, the issue is characterized by Junior Mahogany body with flat top "slab" ended in the traditional Gibson Sunburst. The Junior was hailed as an economical option for buyers of electric guitar Gibson [citation needed] this was just a job P-90 pickup, single volume and tone controls, rosewood and related key not wearing a single point platform markers. However, as a concession to the aspirations from buyer's guitarist, Junior has a bridge functionality pin / tailpiece similar to the second embodiment of the exclusive high gold.
Later, in 1955, Gibson launched the TV model, which was essentially a junior this Gibson calls a natural finish. This finish is actually more of a yellow mustard-transparent through which the grain could be seen and not contrary to finish this competitor called yellow Fender candy. The idea behind this was that the TV Amarillo white guitar in the first glow too black and white television, while the TV does not yellow guitar looked.
In 1958, Gibson made a radical change in the design of their Junior and TV models: with the design change is cosmetic changes to these guitars to make a huge importance. To meet the demands of readers for more access to the top frets than previous models allowed, Gibson redesigned the two models of electric guitar with a cut new body double. In addition, new look to the Junior has been enhanced with a new cherry red finish, while the new form of television has adopted a new finish more yellow for new design.

In 1959, the Special Rapporteur in the same way again double cut body that young and TV was in 1958. However, when the new design has been applied to two special collection, the pickup cavity to double the joint of the neck and body. This has weakened the seal so that the neck can break after only moderate handling. The problem was quickly resolved when Gibson's designers moved the neck pickup more expensive to produce and eliminate a common problem breakage.
This special stabilized version is only offered by Gibson Custom Shop in "their" television series yellow.

This model has begun to produce 58 to 60 and 61 has been modified in what is now known as the Gibson SG. Only 2,000 of these first models were made. Sunburst finished these guitars were later called Paul Standards to differentiate the previous Goldtop. The material specification is the same that the '57 Goldtop with PAF humbuckers, with some models with vibrato tailpiece Bigsby and bridge tune-o-matic, with some models also carying the Kahler tremolo system. 1961 SG Les Paul
Main article: Gibson SG
In 1960, Gibson has declined electric guitar sales, due to their high prices and strong competition from Fender design similar but much lighter double-cut: Stratocaster. In response, Gibson has changed the Les Paul line. This question 1961 Les Paul guitar was thinner and lighter than previous models, with two strong cutting plans and a system tremolo. However, the new design has been done without the knowledge of Les Paul. When the musicians saw the guitar, Gibson asked to remove his name from the instrument and separated from the company. Despite this separation took place in 1960, Gibson had a surplus stock of "Les Paul" logos and covers the soul, and continued to use the Les Paul name until 1963. At that time, the name of the SG guitar was eventually replaced by "SG" which was simply Solid Guitar. In addition to the line of the EC, Gibson continued to provide the cheapest and Special Jrs (and the Melody Makers) with the new body style. In 1964, The Rolling Stones Keith Richards received a radio 1959 The Paul Sun Guitar, fitted with a Bigsby tailpiece, was the first "star-owned" Les Paul Great Britain and was one of the main instruments of the guitar in 1966. In 1966, Eric Clapton also recognized the potential of rock in the late 50's guitars Paul (in particular models 19581960 sunbeams of the Americas), and gave them wide exposure. He began using Paul due to the influence of Freddie King and Hubert Sumlin. Soon artists like Peter Green, Mike Bloomfield, Mick Taylor, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page started using the Gibson model. These models of the 1950 addition, more thickness, the maintenance of Gibson humbuckers original units known as "patent applied for" (PAF) pickups. These PAF was designed by Seth Lover, while working for Gibson in 1955 (U.S. Patent 2,896,491), and debuted on LP in 1957. This innovation has become a design standard to pick up Gibson and subsequently, many other companies followed suit guitar, electric equipment with their versions of the faux microphone modified to prevent double award Gibson infringe patents. Gretsch Filtertron had their trucks, and when he entered the Fender humbucker market in 1972, resumed with radically different Fender wide range. "Norma" humbuckers other guitar manufacturers and third parts replacement pads the size of Seymour Duncan and DiMarzio were given only after Gibson's patent had expired. Over the years, the 1950 has become a real power Pauls guitars most desirable and expensive the world. Only 1,700 were made between 1958 and 1960 [citation needed] Even today in the resale of a Les Paul in 1959 in good condition can be easily sold US $ 200 000 to 750 000 U.S. dollars, even in mid-1960, the price of Les Paul guitars had begun to rise. (However, a repeat of 1958, 1959 or 1960 Les Paul can be purchased for less than $ US3, 000 - $ US6, 000.) With this value in mind, and with increased public pressure, Gibson reintroduced the Les Paul single cut in July 1968.

The following years the company has been News owner Gibson Guitar Corporation. During the "Norlin Era", Gibson Les Paul body styles have been modified, including modification of the scroll collar. Because the Les Paul had a reputation of having a neck seal is easily broken, the displacement of reinforced neck where it joins the wrist to prevent rupture. For even greater force, the timber was changed from mahogany neck with maple designs of three pieces. The LP body has been changed in one piece mahogany with a maple top mahogany MS with several senior reconstituted maple (also called a body "pancake").
At that time, well, Gibson began to experiment with new models like the Les Paul recording. This model is usually avoided [citation needed] guitar purists "Too full of gadgets" [Citation. Needed] The recording brought low impedance pickups, many switches and buttons, and a highly specialized cable impedance matching amplifier. Less visible changes include but are not limited to, maple keys (1976), the pickup cavity shielding, and crossing the bridge ABR1 Bridge Tune-o-matic in the modern Nashville Tune-o-matic. During 1970, the form of Les Paul's body has been incorporated into Gibson models, including M-1, the Sonex, S-L6, and many other experimental models.

In late 1969/early 1970, the point "i" was back, plus a "Made in the USA "label on the back of the wrist. In 1975, construction of the neck is mahogany Arce changed until the 1980's, when construction referred to mahogany. The modified body to return to design solid mahogany pancake at the end of 1976 or early 1977. Interest in this particular Les Paul model was so lower than in 1985, Gibson has canceled the line. However, in 2005, the "Deluxe" was reintroduced with more popularity due to its association with Pete Townshend and Thin Lizzy.
