What kind of guitar for a beginner? Acoustic or semi-acoustic?

I like to play with time a semi-acoustic and the bands I see, but I do not know if it would be best to start with an acoustic guitar. I play the viola and I'm in a band. I've been looking Gretsch and Epiphone semi-acoustic and acoustic Takamine. What do you think? I thought we played what people would call alternative.

I suggest you start with a sound as you suggested. Finally decide what kind of music you want to play and whether to buy the one you think is perfect now, it may be totally inadequate once you learn a little about guitars. Electric Guitars generally have the strings near the neck and making each other easier to play, but until you've had some good lessons and are looking to play the top of the neck, I will stay with the acoustic. The most players end up with two or more guitars and it's always good to have a good sound at all. What should look, if you have large hands, you want a guitar with a scale (distance from the "nut on the top of the neck" to the bridge) and 25.5 "If you have small arms and the hands of a much shorter 23.75" would be more comfortable for you. I would get a cut wit sound to have some access to the upper neck, and definitely ask the music store to set properly before taking it home. Amending action (string height above the neck) and various other things that an opponent will be difficult to play the guitar and turn it into one that wants to play all time. Hope this helps.
