Change my Epiphone LP standard factory pickups with Seymour Duncan?
I want to change my factory pickup in my Epiphone Les Paul Standard Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II. Is it a good solution to improve the sound of the guitar? I mostly play blues, hard rock and classic rock.
I agree with the voice of others, this is quite a big step to get a warmer, more "vintage" sound of his guitar. These are the pills that I would use to play Zeppelin or Guns N 'Roses, for example, magnets of alnico tend to have a warmer and rounder tone (although usually not so hot) that ceramic magnets comparable in other pills. I have alnico in my Seymour Duncan JB's, and I really like the tone of all the good receipt of them, actually work for different styles very well, it seems that much of the midrange response. Well, not so good for extreme metal, but nothing that can not be avoided with a little I think EQ. So yes, go for it. For your neck pickup, you may want to consider getting gates of heaven, or the PAF Joe DiMarzio. The gates of heaven are a really sweet sound chimy to really shine, ideal for carry cleaner. The FAP Joes are reputed to have a more compressed, sustained sound that conforms to the "virtuous" guitar sound exemplified by Satriani and Vai. I'm not saying you have to, of course, but I wanted to throw some ideas of how to work with the Alnico Pro II, but also give a little variety in the tone .... I think they are compatible with the style you're aiming for, too. The following link will take you some information on the gates of heaven, and the second link is the page DiMarzio. Go to the humbucker, and output means to find the Joes FAP, and check out the sound samples there too. Saul
