Is there any point in customizing my guitar / s?

I have two electric guitars at the moment, one an Epiphone Les Paul Special II one of them 'Legend' Telecaster copy, virtually no-name brand. Epi is not bad ... I do not like, however, and the Tele is pretty decent for AU $ 300. I wondered whether it would make much sense to improve the electronics (pickups, switches, cables, battery) or if the results would minor and not worth the time and money. I was thinking about new pickups for guitars and new pots, at least. On the other hand, replacement of capacitors potting mix in each guitar with a small part of stewmac. Acts as a small overdrive, which marks the rise as the old tone of command. Only I have no idea how much better these modifications are my guitars ... If you've done something like this, or know someone who has, I'd love some feedback. PS, what's new I buy high quality not great, so I'm not sure how much more will be what is already on the guitar ...
