Buy my first banjo?
I'm more likely to get a banjo in a few months. I'll post links to banjos looking. What do you think is better. If does not recommend this or that you think would be better, please tell me what you recommend. Also, how many strings do you recommend? http://folk-instruments.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-MB200-Banjo?sku = 518,694 http://folk-instruments.musiciansfriend.com/product/Dean-Backwoods-6-Banjo?sku=519798 http://folk-instruments.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-FB54-5String-Banjo?sku = 510462 I have not even held a banjo before, so I need help.
Well, there are basically two different types of banjos here - 5 strings and 6 strings. The latter is a guitar banjo, sometimes called banjitar. That is tuned like a normal guitar and played very similar. Of course, responds differently to a guitar - A banjo, after all
The five-string banjo is usually associated with Western or traditional type of banjo (although there are artists such as Bela Fleck, who plays all kinds of styles in it - an amazing artist.) This banjo is tuned G, D, G, H, D (open G) on the fifth string is the string an octave above G third. In a five-string banjo that is used most often by at least a thumb selection. It is common to use finger picks 03.02 with the thumb of selection. Unfortunately, the quality of most 6 string banjos are not so great. You can find, but the price tends to be quite high. Those in the lower price ranges tend not to strive for - to put it mildly OK. For the price, I will assume that both the other two are the banjos. As with anything else on musical instruments it is always best to test it in person before making a purchase. I would not worry too much about the strings to start with the beginner instruments like these. Just buy whole sets reputable dealers designed for instruments and will be good to go. Note that there may be different forms of fixation string on the bridge. Make sure you get either end of the loop or ball end - depends on what your banjo uses.
