Joe Pass - Jazz Guitar Music Legend - Part 2
Many guitarists have been surprised to learn that Joe Pass played solid body Fender guitar recordings Early music jazz guitar. Normally associated with artists of surf and rock and roll, Fender Fender Jazz Master and Jaguar models seem unlikely sheets by bebop advanced, but spend the most of their circumstances. Your Fender guitar sound heard on the recordings as the 1961 "Sounds of Synanon, 1962" Something Special (Groove Holmes) and "Moment of Truth" (Gerald Wilson), and 1963 "Catch Me", his first album as a leader. He also used a Fender Bass VI six string bass guitar a couple of tracks on that date. Go thinline used a Gibson ES-355 briefly during 1963. This was heard in its meetings as guest with Les McCann.
Pass played these atypical jazz guitars until a kind soul and generous, Mike Peak, gave him a Gibson ES-175D in 1963. This is an acoustic guitar electric archtop with two humbucking pickups, sunburst finish and a laminated body 16 inches. The 175 was the ultimate Joe Pass and the sound became his instrument horse battle for most of his career. Is heard prominently in the classic recordings as 1964 "Django" and "Joy Spring" of 1967 "simplicity" and 1963 "Concord Jazz" (with Herb Ellis).
In the years 1970 and 1980, Joe Pass dabbling with some other jazz archtop guitars, including a custom James D-Aquisto archtop acoustics with a slimmer body and floating to collect, and an Ibanez JP-20 signature model. Later, he lent his name to a line of guitars Epiphone Joe Pass signature on the 1990. In 1992 Joe took delivery of a custom Gibson ES-175. According to the jazz guitarist John Pisano, longtime friend and frequent passing musical collaborator, this instrument has a slimmer body, a single humbucking pickup, sunburst finish, gold hardware and an ebony fingerboard. Pisano also mentioned that this is the guitar by ear in the final recordings of Joe, including his past: "Meet the Masters: Roy Clark & Joe Pass Play Hank Williams."
Like most jazz guitarists, step uses the neck pickup in the ES-175 almost exclusively and adjust the tone control to produce a sound Embassy warm. Joe comes with complete support of heavy custom calibration set of GHS strings. Joe had an unusual habit of breaking or biting your selections in half a size smaller than he felt he was more comfortable. These are collected as originally smaller tears and then touched break with the tip.
In the 1960's, Joe usually performed and recorded with several Fender tube amps. Combo models were used and slopes including a Twin Reverb and a black Tolex band director. The latter was seen and heard, coupled with a Fender Jaguar in a 1962 television show by saying included in the "genius Joe Pass "DVD. Photshoot reveal that Ampeg combo amp was used during the historic" For Django "recording. In early 1970, Polytone step changed to solid state amplifiers and became one of the company's leadership endorsers. Fortunately for aspiring guitarists, Joe Pass launched numerous books on jazz guitar tablature and instructional DVD courses teach his single note solos improvised solos and chord melody and PICKSTYLE fingerings and guitar techniques he used to play with them.
